Nightjars (Caprimulgiformes)

The order Anseriformes contains 5 families, with around 120 species. These birds are nocturnal and well camouflaged with weak feet, soft plumage, and very large mouths. Most feed on insects caught in flight. They range in size from one to almost 6 feet (the Trumpeter Swan)!

On this page you will find only the families and species which may be observed in and around the area of Harmon Park. Species which have been verifiably observed on the grounds of the Park are indicated with this symbol:
