Cuckoos & Allies (Cuculiformes)

The order Strigiformes contains just 2 families, with around 140 species. They are long-tailed birds with rearward or sideward facing toes which feed on both fruits and small animals. Most are arboreal but a few are terrestrial. They range in size from over 6 inches to 2.5 feet.

On this page you will find only the families and species which may be observed in and around the area of Harmon Park. Species which have been verifiably observed on the grounds of the Park are indicated with this symbol:
